Our customer in South Bend is looking to add a Process Engineer to their team to provide process and metallurgical expertise in support of engineering and prediction efforts for friction welding applications and development.
They are open to candidates with a background in Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineering experience or education or something similar, with exposure to Materials Science or an interest in that area. Someone who is an innovative thinker, R&D mindset, and passionate about problem solving. This is a direct hire position with full benefits and competitive pay. Required Skills and Competencies
1. Demonstrated ability to solve complex as well as simple problems
2. Proficiency in mathematics with the ability to manipulate equations
3. Ability to interpolate information from similar jobs and apply this information to new jobs

7. Good aptitude for mechanical and hands-on skills
8. Familiarity with CAD and Microsoft Office Software

Preferred Skills or Competencies
1. Ability to apply accepted methodologies related to problem solving and design/manufacturing robustness (8-D, Six Sigma) as a normal course of completing assignments
2. Ability to prepare and perform metallurgical samples and assess metallurgy
3. Familiarity with a machining environment, its equipment and its processes
4. Ability to facilitate conflict resolutions
5. Previous experience in Research & Development or process development.
Required Education and/or Experience
1. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Welding Engineering and/or Materials required. Advanced degree preferred.
2. 2-3 years in an engineering or technically oriented role directly related to friction welding or some solid-state joining process.
3. 2-3 years as a Process Engineer, or similar technical role, related to process definition, development and improvement
4. Direct experience in material joining, material properties and/or material characteristics, strongly preferred.
5. Knowledge related to DFM (design for manufacture) and DOE (design of experiments) methodology
