Under the close supervision of the Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisory), the Environmental Scientist at this entry level position performs a variety of the less complex professional scientific office and fieldwork assignments. The incumbent applies scientific methods and principles in the quantification, distribution and dissipation of pesticides and other pollutants in the environment. The incumbent may analyze and evaluate available data on the effects of pesticide applications on the environment and human health. Specific responsibilities include: Analyzes monitoring and environmental data using a variety of tools and techniques including statistics, programing language (e.g., SQL, R, Python, etc.), geographic information systems (GIS), databases, and computer modeling (AERMOD, CALPUFF) in support of Air Program Exposure Mitigation efforts. Investigates and assists in developing new modeling techniques, methods and technologies that have the potential to prevent adverse public and environmental health effects from pesticide exposure. Plans, organizes, and coordinates scientific/technical research to assess the environmental fate and transport of pesticides in the soil and atmosphere. Identifies practices to prevent or reduce pesticide impacts on human health and other biological receptors in the environment and identifies and evaluates mitigation options to reduce adverse effects of pesticides on human health. Writes scientific reports and technical documents for publication. Reviews registration data for soundness. Makes oral presentations to governmental organizations, scientific associations, growers, and the public. Participates in field research studies and field sampling, and assists Air Program study leads in field coordination in support of air program objectives.You will find additional information about the job in the .
