1 in 4 people in the US have a treatable mental health condition, but the majority of providers don't accept insurance, making therapy too expensive for most people. Headway is building a new mental healthcare system that everyone can access by making it easy for therapists to accept insurance and scale their practice.
Headway was founded in 2019. Since then, we've grown into a diverse, national network of over 45,000 mental healthcare providers across all 50 states who run their practice on our software and have served over 1 million patients. We're a Series D company with over $325m in funding from a16z (Andreessen Horowitz), Accel, GV (formerly Google Ventures), Spark Capital, Thrive Capital, Forerunner Ventures and Health Care Service Corporation.

About this role
There is a lot that we're building at Headway, but operationally efficient claims tooling for providers, and the underlying systems that power our claims engine, is foundational to the success of Headway's mission of making mental healthcare more accessible and affordable for everyone. Headway has made it easy for providers to accept the majority of insurance plans in the US by taking a data driven approach towards building, refining and automating a heavily archaic and offline process into a delightful product that will continue to scale heavily from 48,000+ monthly active providers to hundreds-of-thousands more as we continue to invest in a provider-focused strategy to drive our patient-first mission. This team is a small group of strong performers with a clear connection to our mission, and they work closely with business, data and operations teams to drive a significant portion of Headway's primary profit center by tackling abstract, complex problems and engineering elegant solutions in the evolving fields of insurance and healthcare technology.
As an engineering leader at Headway, you will be responsible for establishing and growing these pods through hiring, people development, and strategic planning. You get to play a critical role in setting up how this and its future offspring teams operate, defining what and how they build, and ultimately drive best-in-class user experiences that have a measurable impact on our business objectives.
We're looking for product-minded engineering team leaders and people managers who are relationship-obsessed, drive results and enable their teams to build for technical excellence. As an Engineering Manager at Headway, you will work closely with Engineering Leadership, Product, Design and Business teams to help shape the future of the engineering organization. The expected base pay range for this position is $198,050 - $233,000, based on a variety of factors including qualifications, experience, and geographic location. In addition to base salary, this role may be eligible for performance-based variable compensation and an equity grant, depending on the position and level.
