Job Overview

The School of Public and International Affairs (SPIA) at the University of Cincinnati invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professor in American Politics. The subfield is open, but candidates should specialize in empirical approaches to American politics. The appointment is intended to begin August 15, 2025.

SPIA offers an MPA, MA and PhD in Political Science as well as three undergraduate BAs (Political Science, International Affairs, and Law and Society). 

Essential Functions

The successful candidate will:

? Teach undergraduate courses in American politics, including at least one course per year on American institutions. May also teach occasional graduate course in American politics within our MA-PhD program. The course load for the position is 2-2 (two courses per 2 semesters).

? Maintain an active research agenda and academic engagement leading to scholarly publications in American Politics (sub-field specialization is open).

? Support School governance through unit-level, college, and/or university committee service and student advising. Engagement with the wider university community, external partners, and/or national and international professional organizations, including through peer review, is also expected as professional service.

Minimum Requirements

Prior to the effective date of the appointment, PhD in Political Science or a related field.
