Assistant Director, Student Engagement & Leadership



Overview

St. John Fisher University is an independent, liberal arts institution that provides a transformative education to approximately 3,800 undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students each year. Across its five Schools, Fisher offers nearly 40 majors in the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, business, education, and nursing; 11 pre-professional programs; and master’s and doctoral programs in business, nursing, education, pharmacy, and public health. Job Responsibilities

Overview:

The Office of Student Engagement and Leadership is dedicated to developing programs, services, and experiences that foster student involvement, success, and a strong sense of belonging at the University. This includes creating, organizing, and assessing inclusive and comprehensive co-curricular student opportunities.


As a member of the Student Engagement and Leadership team, the Assistant Director is the primary resource for student activities, clubs, and organizations. The Assistant Director oversees late-night and weekend programs, manages the Donald E. Bain Campus Center, and is responsible for campus traditions such as the Week of Welcome. Additionally, this role involves collaboration with the Department of Health and Wellness to assist in developing wellness programming.


Clubs, Organizations, and Programming (35%)

  • Directly advise and coordinate with student organizations:
    • Student Activities Board (SAB)
    • Commuter Council

Responsible for oversight of approximately 45% of clubs and organizations, including purchasing, check-ins, audits for good standing, and policy adherence. Develop and implement SAB and Commuter Council Fall and Spring Retreats, annual mandatory student organization training, etc. Important topics include: event planning, budgeting, student org travel, and risk management. Plan and implement weekly late night and weekend programming with SAB, Commuter Council, and in collaboration with SEL staff . Assist the Director in bi- annual All Clubs Training Serve as a point of contact for student organizations Assess programs regularly and utilize the results for program improvement, learning outcomes, and collaboration with campus constituents

Orientation and Traditions (25%)

  • Organize, program, and assess Week of Welcome , January Orientation, and support SAB signature events and traditions.
  • Lead recruitment, hiring, and training of January Orientation Leaders.

Student Spaces & Campus Center Management (15%)

  • Supervise the daily operations of the Donald E. Bain Campus Center.
  • Hire, train, and supervise Campus Center Manager (CCM) student staff and oversee the mascot program.
  • Conduct daily inspections of student spaces including the Donald E. Bain Campus Center, Michaelhouse, Tepas Commons, etc., and complete work orders as necessary.

Health and Wellness Collaboration (10 )

  • Work with the Department of Health and Wellness to assist in developing wellness programming.
  • Create events and tabling opportunities to promote health and wellness initiatives.

Departmental Responsibilities (10)

  • Serve as a point of contact for student organizations.
  • Address questions about planning, budgeting, and logistics resources and adherence with all University policies.
  • Serve as a campus resource, promote understanding of and engage campus in conversations related to engagement, leadership, and inclusion
  • Assist team with program planning, logistics, and staffing for departmental events and initiatives, including commencement Management of the Cardinal HUB in conjunction with department staff

Administrative (5%)

  • Manage the clubs and organization budgets
  • Participate on campus committees
  • Attend departmental and division meetings
  • Meet regularly with student employees
  • Attend weekly individual meetings with supervisor
  • Assume other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor


Education / Experience

Required Education/Experience:

  • Earned Bachelor’s Degree
  • At least 2 years of experience working in Higher Education with a demonstrated focus on student clubs and activities



Preferred Education/Experience:

  • Master’s Degree in Student Personnel Administration or related field
